What a strange show. From a musical point of view it was an excellent showing of the band. The sound was crystal clear, mixed in full stereo (drums and both guitars) and for Mastodon unbelieveably transparent. No detail was lost, no voice was drowned. However and here lies the problem yet again with bands playing Austrian festivals: They were put in a very unfortunate slot just before Slipknot and Metallica. The crowd just didnt know what to do with them usic the guys were playing and thus there was almost no positive reactions from the crowd during the show. Just a few diehards who couldnt get into the first wavebreaker since Slipknot and Metallica fans were there since 3pm. So it goes. Even though the band was clearly annoyed by the few middle fingers shown they still played an excellent set and even threw in Blood And Thunder which wasnt played very often this tour.
The recording is turned out very good with no details lost and a superb stereo image with Bill's guitar on the right side and Brent's on the left. Brann's drums were also mixed in stereo which can be heard nicely in the sample. Check it out!
