Tallin Review

From Stiches on the MetClub.com message board:
There's 3 things that every Metallica concert-goer should know:
1. Nothing is certain.
2. There's ALWAYS suprises.
3. It starts too late and ends too early.
The show at Tallinn was no different.
I arrived at the venue with my friend at 3 pm, feeling already abused by the heat and long road. As soon as our car and parents had driven away, we realized my friend had left her telephone in the car (look at rule nr. 1).
The venue was huge, but there was still plenty of room to move, because most of the people hadn't arrived yet. Everything was set, and the stage was huge. Still, I was getting a little afraid because I wasn't nervous like I should've been (first time of seeing Metallica, my favorite band, hello?).
We sat in the fan zone for a little, but then decided to not to stay there, because the mere thught of thousands of sweaty men and no air to breathe was getting a bit horrifying (although it was my biggest wish to be there, in the front row).
Now look carefully at the rule nr. 1. Because everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and then some. I got lost in the sea of people, being all by myself.. By that time, the venue had already been filling up, and there was already approximately 60 000 people everywhere around me. I was getting confused and angry, and the heat didn't do any good aswell. I was wandering on my own for 2 hours, and believe me, it was not a pleasant experience.
Time went on, my friend found me and we went back to our plae, with a great wiew on the stage. The warm-up bands were honestly no good, and BFMV had just finished, so we started waiting for Metallica. Now look at the rule nr. 3 - it starts too late. Not trying to be whiny here, because everything was compensated, but the gap between BFMV and Metallica was more than one hour.
Finally, the tune called "It's a long way to the top" by Ac/Dc started playing, and being a die-hard Metallica fan, I knew this could only mean one thing. I stood up, and looked anxiously at the stage, singing along.
The first notes of Ecstasy of Gold were so intoxicating and thrilling, that it's undescribable. I'm sure every Metallica fan who has attended their concert, shares this feeling with me. I was getting nervous - will they really come?? But then I saw that little Danish drummer running on stage, and I went wild.
The roughness of Creeping Death was like a cold shower - it was fast and heavy. I was disturbed by the people around me, who didn't know how to sing the 'die-die' part, so I had to scream louder. Fuel, unlike Creeping Death, got everyone singing along and like it does to James, it also pumped me up. Wherever I May Roam sounded like a huge wave blasting onto the shore. The silent beginning and the guitars and drums kicking in...also, props to Kirk for such an awesome solo.
The little video clip of the messy table - dedication to Master Of Puppets - almost brought a tear to my eyes.
The Thing That Should Not Be was very good, heavy and creepy, but what REALLY surprised me was Leper Messiah, with it's extreme heavyness and energy. When I think back to the show, this is the song that comes into my mind.
Nothing Else Matters got every person singing and waving their lights, while One gave us an expected awesome pyrotechnics and loud, bone-crushing riffs. Unsurprisingly, Enter Sandman was the hit everyone knew. So What was an unexpected treat, and everyone around me was yelling 'So What?!' in each other's faces.
I was expecting Seek and I got Seek, which is a really good show closer.
Who ever said James is losing that 'IT' factor is terribly wrong. His voice was at the top notch, his guitar playing was awesome, his jokes made everyone laugh. It was good to see every Metallica member smiling and being happy with themselves. Now look at the rule nr. 3 - it ends too early. I'm still thinking, maybe it was all just a good dream. Unfortunately I didn't win the meet'n greet, but that gives the 'Tallica boys more reasons to come back to Estonia and do another show! As you saw, there's alot of out here!
76 000 fists in the air, see you next time!!!
